In the 17th century, Tver became a center of crafts and trade, as well as an important strategic point on the way from Moscow to Saint Petersburg. During the 1812 Patriotic War Tver was occupied by French forces but in 1813 it was liberated by Russian troops. Since the beginning of the XX century Tver developed as an industrial center. Such large enterprises as the "Red October" and the "Tverenergomash" factories were built here. Nowadays Tver is a modern city with developed infrastructure and cultural heritage. There are many museums, theatres, parks and other attractions.

Tver is famous for its architectural buildings. There are some of them:

 1.Tverskaya Fortress.

Tverskaya fortress is a historical place, located in the city of Tver. It was built in the 16th century and served a defensive facility to protect the city from enemy attacks. One of the main attractions of the Tver Fortress is the Assumption Cathedral, which was built in 1722. The cathedral is one of the most beautiful and impressive buildings in the city. It is shaped like a cross and decorated with many decorative elements. Inside the cathedral there are many icons and other religious artifacts that attract tourists from all over the world. 2. Church of the Savior on Ilyin.

Church of the Savior on Ilyin is an Orthodox church in Tver, located on the bank of the Volga. The church was built in 1642-1660 by order of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich. It has the shape of a cross and consists of two tiers: the lower and upper. The lower tier has three domes and the upper tier has five domes. 3. House of merchant Arefiev.

The house of merchant Arefiev is a historical building located in the city of Tver on Zhelyabov Street. The building was built in the 1870s and is one of the most beautiful and significant architectural monuments of the city. The house was built on the project of architect Ivan Afanasyev and belonged to merchant Alexander Arefiev. The architecture of the building combines elements of Russian classicism and modern. The house has two floors; the facade is made in beige colors with elements of a red brick decor. Inside the house were preserved original interiors that reflect the style of their time. The house contains several halls, library, kitchen and other rooms that were used for the daily life of the Arefiev family.

Tver is a city with a rich history and culture, which is famous for its museums, theatres and exhibitions. Old books and manuscripts, which are kept in libraries and archives, are an important heritage of the city.
